“Beltelecom” and “Rostelecom” Signed Agreement to Develop Joint Business

Russian National Telecommunications Company “Rostelecom” and Belarusian Republican Unitary Enterprise (RUE) “Beltelecom” have signed an agreement of intent on business development and modernization of telecommunication networks, reports the press service of “Rostelecom”.

Russian National Telecommunications Company “Rostelecom” and Belarusian Republican Unitary Enterprise (RUE) “Beltelecom” have signed an agreement of intent on business development and modernization of telecommunication networks, reports the press service of “Rostelecom”.

The agreement was signed within the framework of the conference ITU Telecom World 2011 held in Geneva in the presence of Minister of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation Igor Schegolev and Deputy Minister of Communications and Informatization of Belarus Sergey Nesterovich. The agreement was signed by President of public corporation “Rostelecom” Alexander Provotorov and Director General of RUE “Beltelecom” Sergey Popkov.

Under this agreement the parties intend to put into commercial operation and make available communication channels Nx10Gb/sec passing through the territories of Russia, Belarus, Poland and Germany with the participation of foreign partners. The parties also intend to expand the throughput of transboundary crossings and their own communication channels up to 1 Tbit/sec.

In accordance with the agreement signed, in 2012-2015 the companies are planning to develop a joint telecommunication services business, selling such services as internet access, primarily to meet the needs “Beltelecom” users, as well as lease of international communication channels in order to organize transit channels from Russia to Europe for the benefit of “Rostelecom” users.
