The leaders of the International Ice Hockey Federation will visit the Belarusian capital on 5th March, 2008. It is planned that both Rene Fasel, President of IIHF, and Horst Lichtner, IIHF General Secretary, will come to Belarus.

During the press conference at the National Press Centre Vladimir Naumov, Minister of the Interior of Belarus and the Head of Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation, said that he would try to convince IIHF leaders of the fact that Minsk could receive World Championship for Hockey in 2014.

Under the Minister’s words, he has put up with the fact that sportsmen who play hockey for clubs of the National Ice Hockey League will not be included in Belarusian combined team at the World Championship 2008.

At the same time V.Naumov noted that he wished “Montreal Canadiens” would win Stanley Cup 2008. At present three Belarusians play for this club and it means that if this team wins, the Cup will be brought to Minsk for three days. In the Minister’s opinion, perhaps this fact could compensate the failure of Belarusian ice-hockey team at the World Championship.

Continuing “sports” theme, V.Naumov, who is a fan of long hikes, informed that this year on 4th May he is going to walk 100 kilometres around Lake Naroch and invited mass media representatives to join in this little journey.
