Reconstructed at the Union State Budget Expense, New Customs Station “Mokrany” Opened at Belarusian-Ukrainian Border

Having undergone reconstruction, an international road customs station “Mokrany” was opened at Belarusian-Ukrainian border on March 12th, 2008. As experts of the State Customs Committee of Belarus note, this customs station fronts the Second Transport Corridor Paris – Berlin – Warsaw – Minsk – Moscow and is of great importance for the development of trade, tourist and business relations.

Having undergone reconstruction, an international road customs station “Mokrany” was opened at Belarusian-Ukrainian border on March 12th, 2008. As experts of the State Customs Committee of Belarus note, this customs station fronts the Second Transport Corridor Paris – Berlin – Warsaw – Minsk – Moscow and is of great importance for the development of trade, tourist and business relations.

“Mokrany” customs station was equipped with the necessary facilities within the Programme of top priority customs infrastructure development of customs clearance frontier points on the territory of the Republic of Belarus both at the Union State and at the republic budgets expense to the total sum of RUB 243.8 million.

In the course of the reconstruction there have been built a process outbuilding with freight transportation and passengers’ clearance halls; sheds over the cars and busses customs supervision area; boxes for narrow examination of vehicles with a ramp; a boiler house; pipelines and networks as well as engineering structures. Besides that, customs station is equipped with the state-of-the-art technical control facilities, is computerized and connected to high-speed data lines.

After the reconstruction rated traffic capacity of “Mokrany” customs station has increased from 500 to 825 vehicles per day including 640 motor cars, 140 lorries and 45 buses. Together with the renewed potential of “Mokrany” customs station overall service capacity of Belarusian customs stations has amounted to 18 thousand vehicles per day.

As A.Shpilevski, Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus, reported, “Mokrany” has become the eighth and the last customs clearance station which not only acquired new look, but also received state-of-the-art equipment in the course of the union programme implementation. The Head of Belarusian Customs Agency also noted that the equipment of border customs infrastructure with necessary facilities won’t stop at that. Under his words, next year three more customs clearance stations will be reconstructed and by 2011 five new-build customs stations will be added to this number.

A.Shpilevski has also informed that in order to increase the quality of service rendered to people crossing Belarusian border, in the near future it is planned to introduce so-called “one-stop principle” for passport, customs and transport supervision at all customs stations. At “Mokrany” customs clearance station this innovation will start working already from April 10th, 2008.

For the last five years goods traffic through “Mokrany” customs clearance station has become almost three times as much, annual tonnage of cargo moved has approached the mark of 600 thousand. About 1.5 million people cross “Mokrany-Domanovo” customs station every year.
