Dmitriy Medvedev Signed Federal Ratification Statute of Belarusian-Russian Agreement on Equal Rights of Free Movement and Place of Residence Option

The President signed Federal Statute “On ratification of the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus on their citizens’ equal rights of free movement, place of stay and residence option on the territories of the Union State member countries”, reported the press service of the Russian President on Tuesday.

We would remind you that the Federal Statute ratifies the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus on citizens’ equal rights of free movement, place of stay and residence option on the territories of the Union State member countries that was signed in St. Petersburg on January 24th, 2006.

The primary purpose of the Agreement is to form single migratory area. According to the statute the citizens of the Russian Federation as well as the Republic of Belarus have the right to enter, leave or stay on the territory of the other Union State member country without any migratory card possessing just valid documents. What is more, Belarusian and Russian citizens that have come onto the territory of the other Union State member country are exempted from registration at the competent authorities according to the place of stay within first 30 days of the entry date.

Besides that, according to the law the fact of a person’s belonging to the citizenship of either party is the reason for obtaining a permit for a place of residence without taking into account the period of sojourning as well as obtaining a permit for a part-time residence on the territory of the other state.

The Federal Statute was adopted by the State Duma on October 10th, 2008 and approved by the Council of Federation on October 15th, 2008.
