Pavel Borodin Sent His Greetings to Peoples' Friendship University of Russia on the Occasion of Its Anniversary

On 3rd-6th February, 2010 Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (PFUR) hosted an International theoretical and practical conference “PFUR – Knowledge to Unite Us. The results of 50-year work on training personnel for developing countries”. The conference was held under the aegis of UNESCO, with the assistance of UNESCO Office in Moscow as well as Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and was devoted to the fiftieth anniversary of the University.

The conference was held under the aegis of UNESCO, with the assistance of UNESCO Office in Moscow as well as Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and was devoted to the fiftieth anniversary of the University.

Deputy State Secretary of the Union State Albert Stepanov addressed the grand meeting of the International theoretical and practical conference with warm greetings on behalf of Pavel Borodin, State Secretary of the Union State.

The participants of the conference gave careful consideration to the issues of education quality, role of information and communication technology in creation of global partnership. Besides that, conference participants considered the differences determined by national, regional and cultural peculiarities as well as the difficulties of graduates’ return home and the problem of brain drain.

Standing Committee of the Union State took an active part in the work of the conference. At the plenary meeting the head of Social Policy and Information Services Department Tatiyana Kovaliova made a report on “Integration processes in the educational systems of Belarus and Russia within the framework of the Union State”.

At present there are four agreements on cooperation and exchange of students between PFUR and Belarusian universities (Belarusian State University, Yanka Kupala Grodno State University, Vitebsk State Medical University). It is a real contribution of a leading Russian university to formation of Common Education Space of the Union State. In April 2007 an Association of Belarusian Students was formed at PFUR. The mission of the association is to tell the representatives of other countries about Belarus, its culture and traditions.

Peoples’ Friendship University was established by the Resolution of the USSR Council of Ministers which was signed on February 5th, 1960. On February 5th, 1992 the university was renamed “Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia – State Institute of Higher Education (PFUR)”. Since its establishment PFUR has prepared more than 60 thousand specialists for more than 170 countries. At present PFUR has 169 agreements with universities in 67 countries: 17 with CIS universities, 49 in Europe, 9 in North America, 33 in Latin America, 20 in Africa and 40 with universities in the Middle East, South East Asia and the Far East.
