The Union State should intensify the work on rehabilitation of the territories that suffered from Chernobyl disaster

“The problem of rehabilitating the territories that suffered from Chernobyl disaster remains topical,” said Deputy Head of Social Policy and Informational Support Department of the Union State Standing Committee Olga Vinogradova at the seminar “On coordinating joint activities of the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation and international organizations aimed to minimize the aftermath of Chernobyl disaster” which took place in Bryansk.

According to her, the fact that a proportion of the population is not satisfied with the work carried out in Belarus and Russia taken separately as well as in the Union State on the whole confirms the above-mentioned first and last. Some projects on rehabilitation of these territories are not put into practice. There are also certain problems with the introduction of the projects the implementation of which has already been planned. One of them is the absence of adequate product advertising. Olga Vinogradova believes that since the efficiency of a number of projects aimed to eliminate the aftermath of Chernobyl disaster is very low, the Union State should decide which of these projects are to be closed by the year 2010 and which of the them are to be implemented. One should also decide which activities are better to be entrusted to the Ministries for Emergency Situations of Belarus and Russia. At the same time the Deputy Head of Social Policy and Informational Support Department of the Union State Standing Committee emphasized it doesn’t mean that functioning, financing, etc. of such programmes will be ceased. Besides that, the Union official denied the conjectures that the Union budget assigns means only for the events related to Union State programmes.
