On October, 22nd Belarusian State Museum of Great Patriotic War history celebrated its 65th anniversary.
The museum was opened on October, 22nd in 1944. There were two first temporary expositions: “Weapons” and “Partisan stamp” displayed in 15 halls and included 1261 exhibits. Those were leaflets, newspapers, hand-written magazines, photos as well as samples of weapons. Three years later appeared permanent exposition.
Today museum has 26 exposure halls and two show-rooms and its fund consists of about 140 thousand units. The basis for the exposition makes the objects collected during the war operations on the territory of Belarus, East Europe and Germany as well as the objects given by the embassies of Germany and the USA after war.
The funds have thousands unique documents. The vivid example can be the letter of commander of the 6th army general Paulyus sent on the 19th of September in 1942. There are also samples of guns and cold steels, military and civil clothes worn in USSR, Germany, Italy, the USA, Czechoslovakia and France. Rarity is considered to be the honored flag of the 56th Moscow rifle division kept by the members of the Komsomol in Vitebsk region during the period of occupation.
Annually Belarusian State Museum of Great Patriotic War history and its branches attract more than 200 thousand tourists, young people and members of delegations from CIS and foreign countries.
