Vitaly Strugovets: Belarus expressed fundamental willingness to consider the issue of CSTO information centre establishment

“Belarus expressed fundamental willingness to consider the issue of CSTO information centre establishment,” stated Vitaly Strugovets, councillor of communications department at CSTO secretariat. Under his words, the establishment of such centres is necessitated, first of all, by the fact that at present in CSTO member states people know much more about NATO than about Collective Security Treaty Organization. Thereby, CSTO image featured in CSTO member states’ mass media is entirely out of key with this notion. The main reason for setting up information centres consists in the necessity to ensure maximum information awareness of member states’ residents about goals and objectives of Collective Security Treaty Organization, to consolidate in mass mind of CSTO member states’ and third countries’ residents the image of the organization as an effective interethnic and international structure able to secure stability and safety both on national and regional levels, to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity. CSTO member states are now aware of the need for such structures and the abovementioned consent of the Republic of Belarus is a graphic evidence of this.

Heads of states highly appreciated the steps taken in information area and supported the suggestion of CSTO secretariat to work out an intergovernmental goal-oriented programme for information counteraction to present challenges and threats, noted Vitaly Strugovets.
