CIA “Thinks” about Russian Economy

Economic potential of Russia is at the centre of attention of American intelligence service. According to CIA information provided in May, Russian gross domestic product exceeded 2 trillion “international dollars” as far back as last year and at the same time was almost equivalent to GDP volume of Great Britain: in 2007 Russian GDP amounted to 2.076 while GDP of Great Britain – 2.147 trillion. Thus, according to CIA, in 2008 Russia ranks seventh after the EU, the USA, China, Japan, India and Germany. It should be noted that the forecast of CIA analysts is confirmed by the conclusions of IMF experts. According to the report of the International Monetary Fund “World Economic Outlook Database”, April 2008 Edition, this year Russian GDP will increase from 2.09 trillion to 2.28 trillion “international dollars”. Besides that, the transition from the seventh to the sixth line according to GDP volume will take place not at the end of the year but as early as mid-July. As predicted by IMF, Russia won’t be able to surpass its next rival – Germany – at least till 2013.
