Belarusian representative as UN General Assembly Second committee deputy chairman

At the UN General Assembly meeting in New York Andrei Metelitsa, Counselor of Permanent representative office of Belarus to the UN was chosen as deputy chairman of the Second (economic and financial issues) committee of UN General Assembly.

At the UN General Assembly meeting in New York Andrei Metelitsa, Counselor of Permanent representative office of Belarus to the UN was chosen as deputy chairman of the Second (economic and financial issues) committee of UN General Assembly.

This is the first time when representative of Belarus is chosen for the post of deputy chairman of one of the most outstanding committees of UN GA.

It is the Second committee of UN General Assembly where traditionally important for Belarus issues of international cooperation on overcoming and minimization of Chernobyl Disaster consequences, international community assistance to the efforts of transition economies and economic measures as political pressure instrument usage prevention are discussed.

The selection of Belarusian diplomat for the post of deputy chairman of the Second committee of UN General Assembly is Belarusian authority recognition by UN GA in the sphere of economic questions settlement. This opinion was expressed by Andrei Popov, the press-secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at briefing in Minsk.

“Belarus has something to offer to international community as far as our own development experience is concerned”, - pointed out the press secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to him such documents as human development report, which records the Belarusian positions achieved, assist to it.
