Ukraine isn’t satisfied with price for Belarusian sugar

According to deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Viktor Panteleenko, the negotiations with Belarus about the purchase of 50 tons of sugar failed to be a success. Belarusian sugar supply was supposed to reduce the shortage and demand increase for sugar that disturbs Ukraine market. However Kyiv wasn’t satisfied with the price that was set in Minsk. “Belgospischeprom” plans to sell sugar at the rate of not less than $550 for a ton.

The head of the “AAA” company analytical department (deals with the study of the agricultural market of Ukraine) Maria Kolesnik points out that the price offered by Belarus for sugar is an objective one. “This is an average world market price for sugar. Future price for white sugar at London Stock Exchange is $557 for a ton as of the August, 27th”, - the expert says.

At the same time the Ukraine Cabinet of Ministers still has hopes for cooperation with Belarus. Viktor Panteleenko pointed out that the negotiations about sugar deliveries may be resumed in November, 2009 – after the end of the sugar production season. Moreover, the volumes of purchase may be increased up to 100 thousand tons.

We may be sure that Ukraine will have to find an approach to Belarusian people, otherwise at the eve of presidential elections Ukraine people will have hard times.
