Presidential Elections in Belarus Held in accordance with Constitution

Presidential elections in the Republic of Belarus were held in accordance with the principles and norms of Belarusian Constitution, said Presiding Judge of the Constitutional Court of Belarus Piotr Miklashevich at the press conference in Minsk.

Presidential elections in the Republic of Belarus were held in accordance with the principles and norms of Belarusian Constitution, said Presiding Judge of the Constitutional Court of Belarus Piotr Miklashevich at the press conference in Minsk.

According to him, “in the last presidential elections Belarusian people expressed their sovereign will. The fact that elections were held in accordance with the principles and norms of the Constitution as well as election legislation based on them ensured their free and democratic character”.

Piotr Miklashevich also noted that Belarus is in the process of forming a rule-of-law, democratic and socially-oriented state. In 2010 Belarus held a number of important state-political events: presidential elections and the Forth All Belarusian People’s Assembly, elections to local councils of deputies.

The Presiding Judge of the Constitutional Court of Belarus believes that All Belarusian People's Assembly is a constitutional form of citizens’ direct participation in managing society and state affairs.
