Russian Politician Warned Belarus against Sale of Companies to Oligarchs

Five minutes after oligarchic business buys Belarusian companies, they will become foreign-owned enterprises belonging to God knows who and falling within the jurisdiction of some district court in New York. Five minutes after oligarchic business buys Belarusian companies, they will become foreign-owned enterprises belonging to God knows who and falling within the jurisdiction of some district court in New York. Such point of view was expressed by Chairman of the NGO “Movement for Development”, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Institute of Demography, Migration and Regional Development Yuri Krupnov in an interview with ONT TV channel.

According to the politician, Belarusian companies are attractive for “transnational oligarchic business which is only conventionally called Russian and which keeps its assets and finances in offshore zone”.

Touching upon the possibility to obtain the credit, the politician said that there was no foregone conclusion yet, everything was only setting in. “What is at issue is the credit. If we consider the problem of Belarusian economy on global level, it does not live in isolation from the global crisis,” noted Yuri Krupnov.

“What is Russia’s $8 billion so much needed in Belarus today?” wonders the expert. “At most, it is a two-month addition to Russia’s reserve assets, in fact, a cushion."

The Russian politician calls the current situation “a huge geopolitical mistake”. “Instead of supporting Belarus, we are destroying our geopolitical basis on European direction,” he explained.
