Some details of informal CIS Summit held in Moscow became known to general public

At the workshop conference “Strategy of CIS economic development. Innovational and expert security “ that took place on March 4th in Moscow, Sergey Lebedev, the Chairman of CIS Executive Committee , revealed some details of the negotiations conducted by the heads of CIS states on February 22nd in Moscow. According to S. Lebedev, the Presidents undoubtedly defined as a priority the maintenance of common free market and liberal zone for all CIS states. As S. lebedev said the Presidents of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan Nursultan Nazarbaev and Kurmanbek Bakiev in their speeches gave special attention to the forthcoming economic crisis. According to S. Lebedev among the economic topics the perspectives of taking strategy of further CIS economic development were discussed at the summit. The heads of the states decided to charge their state agencies with the elaboration of this document and currently, it has already been started. As yet, according to the Chairman, the states have not so many differences in opinions concerning this matter that made it possible to create a special working group of Vice-Ministers of CIS economy who elaborate the documents. “I think that before summer we will come to ready variants of this strategy, which will take into account the wishes of all CIS states”, described the current situation S.Lebedev.

Apart from that the Chairman of CIS EC informed that the decision was taken by the heads of the states to create a working team of CIS states who will prepare documents concerning common transport development. The draft document will be ready before May of the current year. Also one of the issues discussed by the heads of CIS states became food security in the CIS zone. This issue is getting more urgent mainly as a result of rising prices for food and in the near future may become as important as the energy supply problem. As far as energy supply is concerned according to Sergey lebedev, the heads of the states proposed to make this issue the main one in the whole CIS zone next year.
