State Duma Ratified Belarusian-Russian Agreement on Equal Rights of Free Movement and Place of Residence Option

“The State Duma of the Russian Federation has ratified an agreement on citizens’ equal rights of free movement, place of stay and residence option on the territories of the Union State member countries,” reports press service of the State Duma.

“The State Duma of the Russian Federation has ratified an agreement on citizens’ equal rights of free movement, place of stay and residence option on the territories of the Union State member countries,” reports press service of the State Duma.

According to the Agreement on Equal Rights of Free Movement, the citizens of one country (regardless of their residence) have the right to enter, leave, stay, transit, move and choose the place of residence on the territory of the other Union State member country freely with the exception of the places which under the legislation of these countries require a special permission to be entered.

What is more, Belarusian and Russian citizens that have come onto the territory of the other Union State member country are exempted from registration at the competent authorities according to the place of stay within 30 days of the entry date.

The Agreement also mentions that the fact of a person’s belonging to the citizenship of either party is the reason for obtaining a permit for a place of residence (applying for a residence permit) without taking into account the period of sojourning and obtaining a permit for a part-time residence on the territory of the other state. In a case like that the request is considered by the competent authorities on a first priority basis within the shortest term.

We would remind you that the agreement mentioned above was signed in St. Petersburg in January 2006. The document was ratified by the Belarusian party in June 2006.
