Union Parliamentarians Discussed Union State Information Policy in Minsk

In Minsk, a meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus and Russia Union on information policy took place. It was attended by Parliamentary Assembly Deputies of the Belarus and Russia Union, representatives of the Standing Committee of the Union State, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, the TPO of the Union State, the newspaper " Union Veche", the magazine" Union State" and others.

Union Media is one of the most important instruments of the Union State. This opinion was expressed by France Klintsevich, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly. Moreover, he noted that the lack of the necessary legal framework hinders their functioning. "We understand that all these difficulties are temporary, but I believe that the Union State functioning would be difficult without its own media. We must reach the people of Belarus and Russia in a single information field ", - he added. Gennady Davydko Commission Chairman, in turn, expressed the view that common information space of the Union State is in need of modernization. According to his words, issues that are included in the agenda of the meeting, in many respects are the cornerstones in terms of its construction. In course of the meeting, the participants reviewed the results of the implementation plan to establish a unified information space of the Union State media in 2007-2010 as well as a draft plan for 2011-2013. Tatiana Kovaleva, the Head of the Social Policy and Information Support Department of the Union State Standing Committee, noted in her speech that during the last three years intensive information work has been lead, during which union media infrastructure was formed. As an example of good work she mentioned the transition of the TV channel TRO to a round-the-clock broadcasting regime, as well as a qualitatively new level of Union Internet resources. Concerning the new areas of work being included in the plan for 2011-2013 development, Tatiana Kovaleva enumereted enhanced cooperation with regional media, increase cooperation with the press services of ministries and agencies involved in implementing the Union State programs. There was also a suggestion to publish more material in foreign languages, to carry out technical upgrading of Internet resources.
