Days of Economy of Belarus Opened in Moscow

Days of Economy of Belarus were opened in Moscow on April 23rd, 2009. As is reported by the press service of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus to the Russian Federation, these Days are held within such a large-scale event as the Days of Belarus in Moscow which will last till the end of the year.

Days of Economy of Belarus started with an exhibition of innovation projects which was held in the exhibition room of Moscow government located in Novyi Arbat. Its main purpose is to analyze and assess the prospect of introducing innovation technologies into industrial productions of Belarus and Moscow. The exposition presented more than 70 projects developed by scientific, scientific-production, construction and industrial organizations as well as enterprises of Belarus and Moscow.

The programme of the Days also includes round-table conferences on cooperation in the areas of science and innovations, small-scale entrepreneurship and industry as well as meetings and negotiations on broadening cooperation in agricultural and construction sectors.

Within the Days of Economy it is planned to hold a meeting of the committee on trade and economic, scientific and technical as well as liberal and cultural cooperation under the Council of Business Cooperation of Belarus and Moscow. Its agenda includes the issues of developing cooperation in scientific and innovation areas, of implementing joint projects and programmes, of broadening cooperation ties as well as coordinating action in the area of small-scale entrepreneurship. Besides that, the programme includes a presentation of a draft programme of cooperation between Moscow and Belarus in the area of innovations. The meeting is planned to result in a respective protocol and a schedule of specialized fairs for Belarusian commodity producers to be held in Moscow in 2009.

We would remind you that Moscow is a key trade and economic partner of Belarus among other Russian regions traditionally leading in export of Belarusian produce and ranking second in turnover. In 2008 the volume of mutual trade amounted to $5 billion 369.7 million having increased by 24.3% as compared to the year 2007. At the same time Belarus’ export made up $2 billion 801.1 million (which is a 5.7% increase) while import amounted to $2 billion 568.6 million (54%). Balance of foreign trade was positive at the rate of $232.5 million.
