Valentin Simirski: Active cooperation between Belarus and Russia in security, defence and crime-fighting areas creates favourable conditions for more intensive integration of our countries in all spheres.

In Smolensk at the meeting of State Duma Committee for CIS Affairs and Relations with Fellow Countrymen Valentin Simirski, Chairman of the Committee on Security, Defence and Crime-Fight at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State, said that active cooperation between Belarus and Russia in security, defence and crime-fighting areas creates favourable conditions for more intensive integration of our countries in all spheres. Valentin Simirski also reminded that in the respective area nine Union programmes and five Union State activities are to be implemented in 2008. It should be noted that the committee he heads pays special attention to frontier and customs programmes: for instance, the programme aimed at provision of the necessary facilities for the Union State external border in 2007-2011, which is the continuation of Belarus and Russia’s joint work carried out on the programme of the same name in the preceding years as well as Union State programme of introduction of information technologies and joint customs procedures on the territory of the Union State member-states in 2008-2010 which aims at improvement of customs activities in the Union State.
